Review: Kung Zhu Special Forces Hamsters

You've probably heard of Zhu Zhu pets, right?  They are those cute little toy hamsters that look like a hamster, make noises like a hamster, and move like a hamster, but are not a hamster.  It's a way to have a pet without the cleanup.   Or without the wet kisses.

Zhu Zhu Pets recently sent our crew some of the new Kung Zhu Special Forces Hamsters...

The little hamsters kept all four kids - from the 14yo down to our 7yo - happy for several hours.  I think these hamsters are a great toy for ages 4-10 or so.  They aren't educational, but they are entertaining (and they keep the kids off the t.v. for a while!).  Our 10yo boy enjoyed the battle arena more than anyone else.  The boys thought the armor was definitely cool, but our 7yo girl just wanted to play with her hamster "without the ugly armor!"   You'll see in the photos that the girls' hamsters are without the armor, and the boys' have theirs on.

The pets are for a younger crowd than our 12yo girl or 14yo boy, but even they were captivated for the afternoon.  It was definitely handy to have our 14yo around to assemble the battle arena!

If I had extra change in my pocket and were considering Zhu Zhu pets, here's what I'd do:  I'd purchase only the hamsters for our little gal.  For our 10yo, I'd purchase the Kung Zhu pets and armor.  And because space is an issue, always, forever and always around here, and I don't like things occupying the floor (ouch, it hurts when  I trip), I would pass on the Kung Zhu battle arena.  If I had space and a little boy, I'd get the arena.
